Constitution Quest Adventure Scavenger Hunt

The Constitution Quest Adventure Scavenger Hunt is a winning combination of reading passages, question trails and code words! This activity allows students to move around the classroom while utilizing their reading comprehension skills and answering questions.

Each “card” includes a short reading passage about the Constitution, a question trail and a code word. Students will get “code word questions” to determine which card they should visit next. This fun front-loading lesson includes 10 short passages, a final mystery word and a question trail. Each card reveals a new code word.

If you’re looking for a unique way to teach the Constitution, then this is perfect for you. You can hang the cards on the wall, scatter them on the floor, place them on desks, hide them or pass them amongst students. How you choose to set it up in your classroom is up to you.

Students will revisit the Constitution text multiple times practicing reading comprehension and critical thinking skills as they rotate around the room seeking text evidence. To ensure understanding of the subject matter, students will answer questions that can be found directly in the reading passages. No prior knowledge is needed.

Students will work in pairs (or individually) and race to complete 10 questions. A friendly competition always increases engagement. Students will read the text, answer 10 questions and unscramble a final code word.

In addition to learning or reinforcing the subject matter, these scavenger hunts encourage teamwork and critical thinking. As a “timed” challenge, students will be engaged from beginning to end!

HOW IT WORKS: A “secret mission” is read, and students choose a card to start at. It does NOT matter what card students begin at because the order of completion does not matter. The code word question on their card will lead to a different card. All you have to do is print the clues, cut them in half, and hide them!
