Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. 43 Slides of pictures, links & info!
Google slide presentation chock full of all the people, places, events, music, plants, and animals the author mentions in her book! This fantastic book, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, is rich with vocabulary, historical events, scientific people, wondrous plants and animals and more. But the reader finds herself wondering what a lot of these references are! Especially if the reader is young and has never heard of these things.
This presentation comes to the rescue!! Whether you are reading this book out loud to your students or having them read it alone, these slides will help them learn about the things Calpurnia is learning and experiencing.
For example, there are pictures of rag curlers, a broderie-anglaise dress with petticoats that she wears to the recital, hairy vetch, webworms, canis minor, a telegraph machine, and so much more.
There are also many links to the songs Callie mentions: Ecossaise in G, the Minute Waltz, and others so that your students can listen to them if they never have before.
There's even a link to videos of caterpillars turning into moths or butterflies like Callie's Petey did.
This is an invaluable resource for you and your students as there are no pictures in the book and little explanations for many of the historical and scientific things mentioned throughout the book.
This will save you hours of time looking things up you may not even be familiar with yourself (I wasn't!-- a Saturniidae??) and provide an enriching educational lesson.
