Learn to Read and Write: A Phonics Approach to Reading Level 2 (466 Pages!) is a full year's language arts course that teaches your student to read, write, spell, and do early punctuation and grammar.
This course begins by reviewing the silent e and then moves into learning more phonics sounds and integrating them into larger and larger words. This book includes a weekly word list with a new phonics sound each week. There will be daily reading passages that will progressively get harder each week of lessons. There are weekly grammar lessons, weekly punctuation and writing lessons and daily spelling lessons. The first half of the book includes sight words. The second half of the book has a list of all phonics sounds and words or sentences for review instead of sight words.
There will be some older works of art either to read about and talk about or just to look at.
This workbook is considered a complete full year language arts course for early elementary students in first through second or third grade depending on reading level. You will not need to buy additional grammar, spelling, reading, or writing workbooks to go along with this course. It is a complete course.
Before starting this book, your child should be able to sound out 3 and 4 letter short vowel words and long vowel words with a silent e. They should know and use ch, sh, th, kn, wr, and words with the ending sound le.
