The Middle School Reading, Writing, and Grammar for a Classical Education is a full language arts course (482 Pages!) for the middle school student.
It includes 120 language arts lessons in literature, grammar, vocabulary, writing, spelling, and language usage.
This course book contains parts of novels and full stories from classic literature found in the public domain. Some of the reading assignments include selections from Winnie the Pooh, The Wind in the Willows, Heidi, Grimm’s Tales, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Robinson Crusoe.
These reading sections include questions for the student to answer to teach reading comprehension. The book also introduces fiction writing, essay writing, and poetry writing along with a variety of literary devices such as metaphors and similes.
This is an all-in-one course with everything your middle school student needs for one year of language arts. This book is suitable for advanced 5th and 6th grade as well as standard 7th and 8th grade students.
I was hoping for more writing instruction to build up to longer paragraphs, essays, and creative writing. Some of the literature, such as Heidi, we read in late elementary. As a whole the curriculum doesn't appeal to me for middle school.

Thank you for your review. I did want to mention that paragraph writing is covered in LEARN TO READ AND WRITE Levels 3 and 4. It was anticipated that by middle school, students would have already had a lot of paragraph writing and could go straight to essay and research writing. More practice for creative writing is found in JUMP INTO CREATIVE WRITING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL. Further essay writing is found in ESSAY WRITING for HIGH SCHOOL. Several of the reading selections were listed in the course description, including Heidi.

The full-curriculum for middle school ELA is a great product at a great price. It covers everything that should be learned in a classroom or homeschool in classical literature as well as grammar, vocabulary, writing, spelling, and language usage. I love that the reading passage have questions for my daughter to answer to adequately assess her knowledge. Diane Robertson's resources are the best!
