Vehicle Themed Syllable Segmentation Sorting Activity
Vehicle Themed Syllable Segmentation Sorting Activity
This vehicle themed activity is one that my kindergarten students love, especially the boys.
This resource can be used in:
● A homeschool setting or co-op
● In a small group or 1:1 intervention setting
● In a classroom setting as a literacy center activity
● To introduce new vocabulary words especially to ESL students.
This activity includes 43 picture cards of all different types of vehicles as well as 4 number cards that students will use to sort the pictures out by number of syllables. A list of all vehicles and the number of syllables in each is included as well for an answer key.
Why are phonemic awareness activities so important for young children?
Before children learn to read print, they need to become aware of how the sounds in words work. They must understand that words are made up of individual speech sounds, or phonemes. A child's skill in phonological and phonemic awareness is a good predictor of later reading success or difficulty.
