Zoo Animals Syllable Segmentation Sorting Activity
Zoo Animals Syllable Segmentation Sorting Activity
This adorable zoo animal themed phonemic awareness game is perfect for your preschool, kindergarten or 1st grade students.
Children will have fun segmenting the syllables for each animal picture and sorting them into the appropriate piles.
All the zoo animal pictures are real photographs and students will enjoy looking at the pictures of the animals as well.
As an added bonus my children/students loved looking at the pictures and talking about the animals. This was GREAT for Vocabulary practice as well!!
Why is Phonemic Awareness so important?
Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate phonemes (letter sounds). Children need to become aware of how the sounds in words work, and this can then help to develop skills like reading and spelling.
I have used this game in my literacy stations:
● in my classroom
● in my small reading intervention groups
● as a game station at our family math and reading night at our school.
● This is great for a homeschool setting or co-op as well.
Included in This Resource
● 50 color animal picture cards with names included
● 1 sheet of numbers 1-5 for sorting pictures into syllables
● 1 sheet of animal names and number of syllables typed as an answer key
